Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about our label distribution services. If this information does not answer your question, feel free to send us an email and we will be happy to help.

What does GIOV Distro do for indie labels?
First and foremost, we give opportunities for independent record stores to carry your releases. We believe that independent record stores are the best place to buy music and we want to give labels an opportunity to sell with these record stores. While many other distributors are very selective in the labels they carry, Get It On Vinyl is the opposite and is very inclusive to almost any label producing great music on physical media.

In addition to offering your releases through our catalog, we actively promote new releases through our newsletters, reviews, feature pages, record store play lists, and promotional copies. We also list items in your back catalog.

How does a label apply to distribute through Get It On Vinyl?
It’s easy. Fill out New Label Application. This will provide us with some of the basic information we will need. Once that is received, we will email you further instructions.

Do you only distribute vinyl?
No! We distribute all physical music including CD, cassettes, and of course 12” and 7” vinyl.

Are releases on consignment? When are payments made?
Get It On Vinyl is not a consignment based distributor. All orders are paid at time of invoice. We don’t belive in tying up your inventory and money in consignment. You can read more about payment on Terms & Conditions page.

What are the qualifications for the music? Does it have to be a certain genre?
ALL genres are accepted. We believe there is a market for all types.

How Do I Submit a New Release?
As early as possible, fill out a Release Submission Form. Having proper lead time is essential to a successful release. We do ask for as much advance notice of a release as possible so we have proper time to list the release, promote, review, and take pre-orders. 8 weeks (or earlier) is standard but we accept releases on all time lines up to release date. The common rule is the earlier the better. As soon as available, send any advance copies for in-store play.

Do I Have To Send Advance Copies?
We like to offer every promotional opportunity we can for independent record stores. While we do request a digital streaming copy, many stores still prefer physical promotional copies for in-store play. Please send promotional copies to our shipping address as they become available. Please be sure they are marked as promotional copies and include one-sheets.

We also understand that not every independent label has the budget for promotional copies. In this case a digital stream of the album will be just fine. We promote all releases equally.

Who determines the wholesale price?
We know that each label’s manufacturing costs and profit expectations vary. With that in mind Get It On Vinyl does not recommend a wholesale price. All we ask is that prices are kept reasonable in order to maximize the selling abilities for the independent record stores. Get It On Vinyl will add small handling fee (usually $2-3$) to each order to cover our handling/overhead costs. This cost will be added to the buyers’ price.

Does Get It On Vinyl sell to the general public?
No. Our website is 100% committed to serving independent record stores.

Will you offer the label’s back catalog?
Sure will! We think that discovering an artist’s previous work is one of the best parts of the music discovery process. However please keep in mind that while we may list the title, we may or may not keep it on hand. Back catalog items may be ordered on a as-needed basis.

What about returns?
Get It On Vinyl respects each labels individual unsold merchandise return policies. For labels who offer returns, we are more likely to order additional copies and keep titles on hand for longer periods.

Will Get It On Vinyl distribute to iTunes, Spotify and other digital outlets?
No. Once again, we are dedicated to serving independent record stores.

Can the label still sell its releases through its website?
Of course. Our agreement is not exclusive.

Is this deal exclusive?
No. We believe that all labels should be able to sell their music wherever they want. Different distributors offer different options and we want labels to have access to everything. At the same time, we do respect the exclusive deals of other distributors. It is the responsibility of the label to notify Get It On Vinyl if they have entered into an exclusive distribution deal. Upon notification we will remove all the music from our catalog and return on hand copies to the label at their expense.
