From Kirtland Records
New York, NY – Sarah Jaffe is set to release her third full-length studio album Don’t Disconnect on August 19th, 2014 via Kirtland Records. For the new album, the Texas native chose to work with fellow musician, Texan and friend on the production side, Midlake’s McKenzie Smith. The new album was recorded this past winter in Denton, TX at Smith’s Redwood Studios and finds Jaffe further exploring sounds and textures that reach far beyond her more acoustic beginnings.
Don’t Disconnect not only finds Jaffe evolving sonically, it also has the songwriter lyrically tackling some of the bigger issues facing us in our everyday lives of constant connectivity. The record is the follow up to her critically acclaimed sophomore album The Body Wins (Kirtland 2012) which had NPR stating, “Jaffe has completed the transition from ‘musician’ to ‘artist,’ and she wears it well,” earned her her late night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and had the New York Times noting, “Her voice holds a wounded determination. It’s full of scrapes and quavers, and capable of both Fiona Apple’s acidity and Feist’s suppleness.” While her music has progressed over the years, Jaffe’s voice has been drawing the listener in all along – from her earliest more folky self-released debut EP Even Born Again (2008) to her soulful and slightly more beat driven debut album Suburban Nature (Kirtland 2010) to the fully realized The Body Wins LP to her upcoming new album Don’t Disconnect.
Sarah Jaffe has come a long way in the nearly six years since her debut EP. The 28-year-old Texan has released two critically acclaimed albums, she’s toured with Midlake, Chelsea Wolfe, Norah Jones, Blitzen Trapper, Why?, David Gray, Old 97s, Centromatic, Lou Barlow and New Multitudes and she’s had her voice featured in the Disney/Pixar short The Blue Umbrella that was scored by Jon Brion. In addition, she started a writing project with hip-hop producer S1 (Beyoncé, Kanye West, Jay Z) under the moniker The Dividends (http://wearethedividends.com). Their first collaboration “Bad Guy” ended up as the first track on Eminem’s MMLP2 (featuring a co-write and chorus vocal from Jaffe) and their second collaboration is The Dividend’s track “Fool’s Gold” which features Raekwon.
Amidst her different ventures and collaborations, her constant effort to create and explore new territory has allowed Jaffe to blossom and expand in her work as a solo artist, and this growth and versatility is reflected on third studio effort Don’t Disconnect.
